Welcome to the 2021 Camel's Hump Challenge!

New this year: virtual & in-person options!

The Camel's Hump Challenge offers a rigorous wilderness ski touring experience where spirited backcountry Nordic skiers traverse around the perimeter of Camel's Hump - the third highest peak (4083') in Vermont's Green Mountains - to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's Disease and related dementia. Originally founded by the late Dr. Warren Beeken, the Challenge operates as a fundraiser to support the educational programs and services offered free of charge by the Alzheimer's Association, Vermont Chapter.

A note from the board: We would like all of our new and returning skiers to know we are doing everything possible to continue this unique backcountry experience, despite the extra “challenge” thrown at us this year. Although most everything is up in the air due to the global pandemic, the Alzheimer’s Association’s need for our support has not changed. Now, more than ever, those affected by this disease need services and support. We hope you will consider signing up, and we pledge to continue to work to find the best possible way to hold this event in a safe and successful manner.

To be given annually, the Champion Award, is presented to an individual, team or group that has provided major contributions – fundraising, event volunteering, connection to the Alzheimer’s Association, etc. – to the CHC during the 30 plus years of the event’s history. The CHC planning committee, in conjunction with the Vermont Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, is excited to announce the inaugural recipient of the 2021 Champion Award – Team Susie Backlund. The CHC planning committee encourages all participants and donors to consider the spirit of the award and awardee(s) through their contributions to the CHC. The annual awardee(s) will have their name(s) forever etched into history on the side of the CHC’s legendary Golden Boot Trophy.
