Riding for Two Tot
By participating in A Ride to Remember, I'm taking on the enormous physical challenge and personal adventure of cycling across South Carolina. I've also committed to raising awareness and funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®.
My Dad was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers in January of 2009. The symptoms had been present for at least two or three years so it was hardly the beginning of his journey with this terrible disease. During the years post-diagnosis my Mom has been his fearless caregiver. I am riding for her just as much as I am riding for my Dad. This disease is incredibly isolating and hard to be honest about because it hurts in ways that are difficult to describe. I am guessing the 252 miles will hurt too, but not at all in comparison to what my family has been through watching this disease steal my Dad.
My hope for the Ride to Remember is to be able to honor my Dad's courage and remember him for who he is at his core: a loving husband, a silly grandfather otherwise known as Two Tot, a dog lover to the extreme, a cookie monster, a hard worker, a generous friend, and a fantastic Dad.
I hope you'll join me in my efforts by following my training and the ride in July or by contributing financially or emotionally!
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer’s disease! Your support means the world to me on this memorable journey!
