As part of the Executive Leadership Team of the local Heartland Walk to End Alzheimer’s, we were asked our WHY for being involved in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. My why is simple—I walk in memory of my mom, Emily Anne McKeever Sears, whom I affectionately called Little Mama in the Facebook posts that chronicled our journey with Alzheimer’s. My mom was a brilliant nurse and a compassionate pastor who loved big and had a gift for making a difference in the lives of those around her.
In the final months of my mom’s life I had the honor of moving in with my parents to help my dad, Woody “Dorty” Sears, care for my mom. That was a very special and incredibly difficult time. I walk to raise awareness so that when people wonder if they or a family member has Alzheimer’s, resources are at their finger tips for early identification and compassionate care.
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for your support!
