Why I Ride: Alzheimer’s is a horrible disease, which is why I have signed on for the third straight year to Ride to End ALZ Texas. As some of you may remember, in the run up and training for last year's ride I had a crash on my bike that left me unable to participate thanks to my second separated shoulder in two years. Thankfully, the first year I was able to volunteer and meet a lot of amazing people who are going through the same things that my family has and is going through. Last year actually getting to ride was an amazing, and emotional experience.
My material grandfather, and my namesake, Tom Vannoy passed away after years of fighting Alzheimer's. Thankfully he was able to meet his first great-grand child, my daughter Hannah, before he passed. More recently, my father Mike Mahoney was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's and it's made my family refocus our priorities to make the most of the time that we have.
Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer’s research — only dollars. Which is why I am asking for your support. I am participating on the Ride to End ALZ, a fully-supported, one day fundraising event where every dollar raised supports the Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.
Please consider donating, sharing, or participating (or volunteering if you don't ride) if you can to help fight Alzheimer's disease with me.
Cheer Me On!
