Like so many others, I unfortunately have been directly impacted by the horrible disease Alzheimer’s. First, I lost my dad about 11 years ago and if that wasn’t enough, lost my sister following a 14-year battle on September 11, 2019. I saw firsthand how this disease effected my family members and their caregivers. Even more, I became more and more frustrated and concerned that far less had been ongoing to tackle this disease. After all, I have spent my last 34-years raising hundreds of thousands of dollars directly and millions of dollars indirectly for Multiple Sclerosis and am very pleased with the ongoing, continued progress being made. So why not with Alzheimer’s? Not sure I have the answer to that question only to state that I am committed to raising much-needed funds to help make a difference to fight this awful disease.
By capitalizing on our expertise and organizational skills, we launched the Pedal Away Alzheimer’s bike ride back in 2017 and it started the journey to raise awareness and funds. Back in the inaugural year we had 762 riders registered (two weeks after Hurricane Harvey), followed by 1,202 in 2018 and an over 900 in 2019. Sadly, 2020 ride was canceled due to COVID-19 but the generosity of our fellow cyclists, their family and sponsors helped us make a significant impact toward Alzheimer’s. Over the past 4 years we have generated nearly $100K for Alzheimer’s.
So it is time we become fully-committed toward fighting this disease and that is what I am doing. I am so please that the Pedal Away Alzheimer’s ride will now be part of the Ride to End ALZ which has many benefits with the most impactful, 100% of the funds generated will be directed to research. Now that is a great step forward. I hope you will join me in my efforts to provide much-needed funds to fight this disease. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
