Fundraising Progress

My Story
The Longest Day is the day of the year with the most light, the summer solstice. And it's the day that I've committed to fight Alzheimer's disease. For the second year, I'm participating in The Longest Day of Tennis, a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
My family has been affected by Alzheimer's. For me, it's been the longest 10 years. From watching my mom pull away from friends, stop driving, having trouble following conversations or playing board games, to where she is now, it's been a long, sad journey to follow.
Now, Mom sits in her chair, dozing often, very quiet. She's non-verbal and can't tell us what she wants, needs or how she feels. Mom may still offer a smile when we come to visit, and she will happily accept hugs.
My father-in-law, Steve Jenkins, has had a much quicker decline. He's lost mobility in his legs this past year and repeats questions and conversations. He used to be the caretaker in the house, now he's the one who needs help.
This year there have been advances made in research and treatment for Alzheimer's and with every article I read, I gain hope that there will one day be a treatment that will slow or halt this horrible disease.
Please join me this year (many of you for a second year!) and make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association through our Longest Day of Tennis event. All donations go directly to the Alzheimer's Association whether you donate on this page or through my Facebook Fundraiser page. Thank you for your support, I couldn't do it without you!
