My Story

HOW "KITCHEN CALAMITY: Coast to Coast" WORKS:

In 2020, for The Longest Day, I showed off how notorious I am for talking to myself while I cook and that I am quite bad at "chopsticks". Last year, you saw me move the kitchen OUTSIDE using OPEN FIRE while also doing some "Survivor Challenges" ON Live Stream ON The Longest Day!  Anything for our cause to #ENDALZ!

This year, you are gonna take me "Coast to Coast" with some different dishes that are not local to me! And I will again be live streaming on Facebook Saturday, June 11th starting at 10:30 am! When you make your donations, be sure to include your vote for ONE of the seven regions of the US you want to see me "visit" in the kitchen calamity!

YOU get to vote with your dollars about where I "Go"!

While I am a pretty decent southern cook, I am not so good at the other regions! I don't know how to do a LOBSTAH' Roll or how a California Smoothie can contain kale and still be expensive. Isn't a Deep Dish pizza just a casserole?  So YOU get to tell me which region I will have to use to choose a unique dish to prepare. It works like this, the region with the most votes (with your dollars) will be Dinner, regions with 2nd most votes Lunch, and the region with the 3rd most votes will be Breakfast! So let's go Coast to Coast! Regions:

  • THE NEW ENGLAND-The Garbage Plate (NY)

  • MID ATLANTIC-Pepperoni Roll (MD)

  • THE SOUTHEast- Burgoo (KY)

  • THE MIDWEST-Horseshoe Sandwich (IL)

  • THE SouthWest-Frito Pie (AZ)

  • THE PACIFIC NorthWest- Potato Ice cream (ID)

  • The PACIFIC COAST- Hangtown Fry (CA)

My Story

Mamaw, my Lady, never really enjoyed cooking. She wasn't great at it. She was an expert at cutting off burnt bits and pieces. She was often flustered in the kitchen. And there is a legendary family story about a pressure cooker roast that was never retrieved from inside...because she *might* not have put the machine together the right way. Mamaw wasn't a good cook.

Mamaw WAS a good hugger. And she gave great cuddles. Her laugh could turn your day around, and her smile, with those high cheekbones and bright eyes, brought rays of light, even on cloudy days.

It is because of her light, that I am participating in The Longest Day, the day of the year with the most light the summer solstice. My lady is also why I have committed to fighting Alzheimer's disease this day and every day!

WHY WE FIGHT:

Today, over 6 million people in the U.S. are living with Alzheimer's or other dementias. In the United States alone, 16 million friends and family members are providing their care. When we lost our lady, Mamaw, in October of 2019, I promised her and my family I would fight for other families facing this disease, honoring our fight and her life-long love and fellowship of all others.

I am asking for a donation today to help the Alzheimer's Association support all those facing the disease and to help me honor Mamaw, our Lady. Thank you!

The Power of a Donation
