Armand Giarrusso was born to Dominic and Adelina (Fossano) Giarrusso on January 13, 1923 in Lawrence, MA where he grew up with his sister, Nellie. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1940 and was a loyal alumnus of Bentley College where he received his Associates Degree in 1942. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. It was there that he was wounded in action for which he received a Purple Heart. After a ten-year career as a Special Agent for the Internal Revenue Service, he joined the Prince Macaroni Company of Lowell, MA where he served as their Senior Financial Executive for 30 years before retiring.

In 1946, he married Evelyn Acciardo of Barrington, RI and resided in North Andover, MA with their three children, Armand, Carol and Jim. Evelyn predeceased him in 2002 after 56 years of marriage. Armand was a devoted family man and poured his time, talent and energy into creating a wonderful life for his entire family. He loved to travel and he, Evelyn and their family enjoyed many remarkable trips together. An avid golfer, Armand was a long-time member of the Andover Country Club until he retired to Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach, FL in 1989. At Gleneagles, he organized the Friday golf group known as the White Knights and managed their activities for over 20 years. He played 18 holes of golf three days a week well into his 90’s. At Gleneagles, he was known as the “mayor”, and no one passed his table in the dining room without greeting him heartily and reminding anyone with him that he was one of a kind.

Armand truly believed that La Famiglia meant everything, and wherever the family or the friends lucky enough to be considered family were, there you would always find him encouraging them to enjoy life with the same irrepressible enthusiasm that he did. He would bring the same joy to every family celebration, holiday, round of golf or quiet moment and the same positive consolation during times of grief or stress.

Armand passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 1st at the age of 98. His memorial service will be held in September at the National Cemetery on Cape Cod where he will be buried with his wife, Evelyn. Contributions, in lieu of flowers can be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association at: http://act.alz.org/goto/ArmandGiarrusso

He is survived by his three children, Armand Giarrusso (Alice) of Michigan, Carol Evans of NY, James Giarrusso (Laurel) of FL; four grandchildren, Michael Evans (Amber) of CO, Sarah Nappa (Anthony) of NY, Catherine Giarrusso of MA and Matthew Giarrusso of MA; five great grandchildren, Peter, Thomas and Avery Evans and Leo and Enzo Nappa, two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and godchildren.

A Prince of a man, his was a long life well lived, and he will be greatly missed.
