Charlton Heston was my Hero, and he was the heart of my heart for almost 50 years. When I first met him, after 30 years of waiting, on August 17, 1990, I said to him, "You speak of admiring the extraordinary man. In my eyes, you are the extraordinary man. He said, "Ah..." and then he kissed my hand.
I lived thousands of miles away from him, but I kept him closer to my heart than anyone else in the world. My vision of him gave me courage as a child, and gave me the strength to go on as an adult, when I had very little strength left.
I miss him terribly, though I am grateful that his suffering is over. I would like to believe he is in a better now, but I wish I could have said "Goodbye" to him.
I am only a fan, but he was much more than just an actor. The impact he had upon my life is immeasurable.
