Joe's Life Serafin Joseph “Joe” Gandarillas, 93, of Yardville passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013. Born in Barre, Vermont, on August 25, 1919, he was raised in Beacon Falls, Connecticut and settled in Yardville, New Jersey. Joe's Story with Alzheimer's Roughly in late 2005, Joe began to suffer with early signs of Alzheimer's Disease. Soon after, he forgot his ability to walk and spent the rest of his life wheelchair bound. Several years later, he was unable to recognize members of family; however, his mind was stuck at earlier stages of his life and he would be able to recall his family members through old photographs. Despite having severe memory loss, Joe still cracked jokes, such as stating that he wanted to cook his daughter's dogs and make hot dogs, and that the Yankees were the best bought baseball team. Thanks to 10 wonderful years of care from his live-in aid, Natalie, Joe was able to spend the rest of his life living in his home in Yardville, NJ. His family did everything they could to abide by all of his wishes. His family hopes that the funds donated in memory of Joe's life, will allow researches to become one step closer to finding a cure or preventive measures for Alzheimer's Disease. |
