TASER and Tom Swift
The name TASER is an acronym derived from “Tom (A.) Swift and his Electric Rifle”, a reference to Cover’s favorite childhood novels written by Victor Appleton which chronicling the adventures of fictional character Tom Swift.
Jack envisioned the preservation of life for law enforcement and civilians and TASER technology was his crowning achievement. The John H. Cover Life Saving Medal award is to recognize officers who demonstrate great integrity and presence of mind in the use of non-lethal force to save a life. Although TASER does not encouraging law enforcement officers to subject themselves to dangerous situations, we do realize that there are times when officers find themselves life-saving situations and we would like to recognize these officers efforts with this award program.
