Often people ask why myself and my firm work so hard raising funds to help fight Alzheimer's. The obvious answer is that many of the families I help have a personal connection to the disease and I have many clients walking the Alzheimer's journey themselves.
That's powerful enough a reason.
I also have a selfish reason. (Only Child Syndrome)
I have a genetic variant that pre-disposes me to Alzheimer's Disease. Here's how I found out.
My wife and I decided last Christmas to take a 23AndMe test, which looks into ancestry as well as genetic markers. My wife claimed she was 100% Hungarian, and I always joked she had some native American in there.
Well, she is 100% Eastern European. Shouldn't have doubted her.
My ancestry turned out accurate as well.
Then we got to the genetic marker portion of the test. Apparently, I have some Neanderthal (explains the back hair and 6'5" height). But also it said I was predisposed to Alzheimer's Disease.
We have a sign in our living room that says "Forever & Always, No Matter What." That hit home.
So, the reason I raise money for the Alzheimer's Association is for my client families...and for me.
Will you help us? Will you help me? Goto www.AlzElderCare.com and please at least donate the amount of a Starbucks Coffee, or even a nice dinner out or more.
I am writing this after a wonderful labor day weekend with my 8 and 5-year-old. We spent time at the Renaissance Festival. Got some turkey legs, created some great memories. I want to keep those. Can you help?
