My Story
On February 9th 2017 mom was only 65 and she lost her battle to this devastating disease. She lived in a care center just 8 houses down from us and we visited her everyday. Every day my heart just aches when I drive by the care center and don’t stop into check on her. I remember the day we had to move her into assisted living, almost 5 years ago. It was so heart breaking, I remember lying in bed with her the first two nights until she fell asleep, she kept talking to herself saying "it's going to be ok." She told us she was going to be "the best Alzheimer's patient ever" and she definitely was. I so wish I could still remember our last conversation we had. Mom has had several ups and downs and I guess I just thought we would have another up, but unfortunately she had not been able to really talk since December 2013. We were blessed with a few words here and there but we knew she is still in there because she would give us the most sincere facial expressions and smiles. It just warmed my heart when she smiled. She absolutely loved it when her grandchildren visited. The bond she had with her grandchildren was remarkable because the two youngest grandchildren never had an opportunity to truly bond with her in the traditional sense. Mom was wheelchair bound from January 2014 and was no longer able to feed herself. It is devastating how fast this disease can take your loved one away from you. It is not fair. We would greatly appreciate your support and wewould be so thankful if you joined my team in honor of my mom.
This will be the 8th Annual BIKES BEHIND BRAINS event. We hope to see you Saturday June 18h!!!
