2023 Alzheimer's Association Memory Ball Dancing Stars

Thank you so much for visiting my website and for your interest in helping me raise funds for Alzheimer’s research, patient and care-giver support, advocacy, and awareness of this devastating disease.  With Alzheimer’s disease, a perfectly normal person progressively loses memory, ability to think and reason, physical functioning, and behavior leading to severe disability and death.  The disease currently affects 6 million Americans - 1 in 9 people over the age of 65 – but will more than double by 2050 (when those currently 35 become 65). As yet, there is no cure; but your support will help with care-giver support now; and scientific advancements towards treatment, cure, or prevention tomorrow.

As Chairman of Medicine at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, I am truly delighted to support my colleagues (our physicians and Advanced Practitioners) every day as we move towards our vision of always providing the care to our patients that we would want for our own loved ones. My colleagues include outstanding primary care physicians and neurologists who are caring for an increasing population of patients with memory complaints. However, once we make a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s dementia, treatment options are limited (not curative) so the disease progresses to the point where patients are completely dependent on care-givers. This course can be overwhelming for patients and care-givers., who often need education, counseling, and family psychological support.  We refer our patients and families to the Alzheimer’s Association and absolutely count on them to help us with this aspect of caring.  

The capability of our biomedical research enterprise is substantial. Effective treatments, cures, and preventive strategies have been developed for many disease. Much more work needs to be done to achieve this for Alzheimer’s disease and you can help.
