Jimmy Motos was born in Runcorn, England, the war-time child of a Scottish mother and American soldier father. He came to Columbus on the HMS Queen Mary and has lived here all of his life. Jimmy and his wife, Barbara, have been married 52 years and have two adult children and five precious grandchildren.
Jimmy is a retired elementary school principal who continues to work as a substitute teacher. In 1994 he was recognized as National Distinguished Principal of Georgia.
Music and theater have always been a major part of his life. He performed as a clarinetist with the Columbus Symphony and the renowned Jordan High School Band and is a charter member, and still active musician, in the Bob Barr Community Band. He also currently plays with the LaGrange Community Band. For over 50 years he has appeared on the stage, most recently in Shrek, the Musical and Evita at the Springer Opera House. He has served as Stage Manager for the Miss Georgia Competition over 30 years. He and Barbara are avid supporters of the Arts, including the CSU dance program. Although Jimmy has never had formal training, he has learned choreography for roles in musicals and always enjoyed social dancing.
Jimmy is proud to be a part of this year’s fundraising event of the local Alzheimer’s Association. He encourages his family and friends to support this Year’s Dancing Stars of Columbus.
