It’s time to dance to make a difference!
On April 30th I will represent Brightview Senior Living as a dancer at the Alzheimer’s Memory Gala sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association. While dancing is not something that is completely foreign to me, there has been a 15 year pause since I last participated in a public dance performance. Throughout middle school and high school, I was a student at Ballet Royale Academy, where I performed in the annual Nutcracker and Spring recitals. This time, when I step onto the dance floor it’s for an amazing cause, the fight to cure Alzheimer’s disease. The driving force behind my decision to dance in the Memory Ball, is my grandfather, retired Colonel Ira Snell Jr., who has been living with Alzheimer’s dementia for the past seven years. Colonel Snell now 93, served his country proudly for 30 years, including two tours to Vietnam. He along with approximately 55 million people world-wide benefit greatly from on-going research and those of us who care enough to support that research. While every day presents new challenges for those with Alzheimer’s, we are grateful for every new day with my grandfather, despite what those challenges may be. Colonel Snell currently resides at Brightview Columbia where he is now thriving in the vibrant community and where I serve as Director of Nursing. This opportunity to dance and raise money through sponsorships is an honor that I hope will inspire others to recognize the importance of joining the fight to cure Alzheimer’s.
