Dear Family and Friends,
Thank you so much for visiting my website and for your interest in helping me raise funds to advance Alzheimer’s research, patient and caregiver support, advocacy, and awareness of this devastating disease. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our collective future is at stake unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
When I was asked to participate as a “Dancing Star” in the 2020 Alzheimer’s Association Memory Ball in Baltimore I didn’t hesitate to say yes even though the thought of performing in front of 800 people is a bit overwhelming. I will be dancing to honor my mother-in-law who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2008, and in support of my husband who learned, through a direct-to-consumer genetic test, that he is at increased risk for late onset Alzheimer’s disease. He has taken the bull by the horns and has made a number of lifestyle changes, based on diet and exercise, that show promise in supporting brain health and lowering the risk of Alzheimer’s and other diseases. It’s so exciting that we are now asking the question “Can Alzheimer’s be prevented?” While it’s still too early for a definitive answer, and this disease likely starts one or two decades before symptoms appear, promising new research is underway in laboratories around the world. As a scientist, I know that scientific breakthroughs require a significant and sustained investment in basic and translational research.
This is why I need your support to do my part! I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for my campaign and I have just reset my goal to $100,000. Please consider making a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide. You can donate by clicking on the green Vote Now button above. I know that you have many options for your philanthropic dollars, and I am grateful for any level of support in our collective quest to conquer this disease.
Never stop dancing!
