Evan was born in Columbus, Georgia and lived here until he graduated from Columbus High School in 2003. After high school, he attended college at the University of Georgia in Athens and then medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He did his medical training in Nashville, Tennessee, Columbia, SC, and Oklahoma City, OK before returning to Columbus in 2015. He married Christy in 2013 after they met in Augusta while she was completing nursing school. They have two children, a four-year old son Nathan and a two-year old daughter Kate.
Evan works at West Georgia Eye Care Center as an ophthalmologist. Ophthalmologists see more patients of Medicare age than any medical specialty besides Geriatrics, so Evan sees many patients on a daily basis who are battling Alzheimer’s or vascular dementia. He is participating in this year’s Dancing Stars of Columbus to raise money and bring attention to dementia in hopes of finding a cure or better treatments for this debilitating disease.
When not working, Evan enjoys traveling. He has visited all 50 states and 30 foreign countries. He loves the national parks, having been to over 200 of the national park sites across the United States. Evan loves playing golf. With his son, he enjoys playing games like Chutes and Ladders, Backgammon, Jenga, and exploring the woods at the grandparent’s house. With his daughter, he enjoys pushing her on the swing and watching music videos. He loves sports and interned for WDAK radio station in high school with aspirations to be a sports announcer. He loves watching his Texas A&M Aggies, San Francisco Giants, and whichever team Lebron James is playing for.
Evan was part of the Ballroom Performance Group for two years at the University of Georgia and performed annually in their Ballroom Magic performance. His favorite dances are swing, salsa, and waltz. He also did hip hop dancing for one year at the Wesley Foundation in Athens, and mentored a student at Columbus High School in ballroom dance for her Senior Project. He hopes you will attend Dancing Stars of Columbus and vote for the performance that most makes you want to keep the music rolling.
