Everett and Elly Williams are excited to be participating in the 2018 Memory Ball for the Alzheimer’s Association, and are looking forward to “making memories.” Elly is a life-long resident of Frederick County and works for the Frederick County Department of Aging as a program coordinator. She has witnessed first-hand, both personally and professionally, the struggle families are faced with when a loved one has dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Elly’s father spent the last two years of his life in the Martinsburg VA Medical Center due to dementia symptoms (never having an official diagnosis) before passing away at the age of 55.
Everett left the little town of Many, La. at the age of 18 to join the Army. During his 21 years of service in the Army he lost his grandfather, who had been a significant role model in his life, due to Alzheimer’s. They are dancing in memory of Elly's father and Everett's grandfather and hope to bring awareness to the disease and the effects it has on families.
