is fundraising to honor:
John Wells, the love of my life!
In honor of John, my late hubby, I'm organizing a fundraiser for my May birthday (the 30th anniversary of my 30th birthday!).
We both gained a lot of insight about how to manage the journey of dealing with dementia through our engagement with the Alzheimer's Association.
Along the way we also learned how expensive and devastating a diagnosis of Alzheimer's or another form of dementia can be. Alzheimer's is the costliest disease to society, both for individuals and for our government. Folks who end up in long-term care spend through their savings quickly and end up on Medicaid. Due to the lingering nature of these illnesses, costs add up quickly. As a society we spend over $270B (billion!) on care for Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
The funds I raise through this effort will help sustain care and support programs and will help toward research FOR A CURE! The Alzheimer's Association is the worlds largest private funder of research.
