Walking
to fight Alzheimer's
My Story
My precious Mom passed away on July 2, 2024 after nearly 15 years of fighting this disease. Here is her tribute video from her Celebration of Life:

Time to give up the fight?
Throw in the towel?
Admit defeat?
LOL...get stinkin' real! Now we are more motivated than ever!
2025 Event-
The next day after I do my last Walk to End Alzheimer's event, we will announce the actual event itself, but let me start you with a teaser: It will be themed "Multi-tasking Til I'm Purple". It will involve walking, running, cliff diving, riding Bigfoot through a forest, all while reading a Dr Suess book or while juggling or something crazy. I also plan it to be multi-site again like 2 years ago when I did the four corners event. :) Stay tuned for ways to help and for updates! :)
Event History:
In 2021 I jogged the 37-mile Frisco Highline Trail for the first time with my event. (https://ozarkgreenways.org/explore/greenway-trails/frisco-highline-trail/ ) In 2022 I jogged the Frisco Highline Trail 2 straight days because, why not? LOL. 74 grueling miles for a dad-bod like me. I was pooped. In 2023, rather than going for 3 days of trails, I did 4 straight days of stairclimbing at 4 locations at the corners of the state (4 Corners 4 a Cure, or 4C4 for short). The June 19th in KC, the 20th in ST. Louis, the 21st in Cape Girardeau, and the 22nd in Springfield. Why? We need a cure! AND, 9x4=36 and The 36 Hour Day is the best book I have found for Alzheimer's caregiving. Frisco trail time again in 2024. I still have a rotund, Dad-Bod, so I don't think I can run it 3 days in a row. The 2 days two years ago was quite bad. If I want to survive for the 2025 event, I need to have a different plan. ;) However, walking as many of the the 37 miles as possible, perhaps the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday might just be doable. 37 miles divided by 3 MPH pretty much eats up the sunlight for the day. I started super early to try to beat the heat and, let me put it like this: You Ain't Lived Until You Walk the Trail in Pitch Darkness. Eyes in the trees, spider webs, and very likely a Bigfoot or two! There are some great videos and pictures in my blog recaps. I was able to log just over 100 miles even after taking the Tuesday off to have a foot x-ray. In the end, 2024 was another great year, raising in excess of $3400. :) Here is the recap video for it: ( https://youtu.be/dYBLlBuiP6A ) But there is still no cure, so how can I rest knowing that they can't rest?
Information for this event will be forthcoming. I have all sorts of tricks up my sleeve. I will certainly live stream large parts, like always, and let you in on a beautiful stretch of our Ozarks. I will share tips, play some games, and do a variety of things to keep it real. :) Stay tuned for this week as it evolves.
These events are quite the shark jumps...but I need your help too. Please consider an ongoing or one-time donation, and preferably before the June 2025 as an extra encouragement for me as I lumber along in getting ready! :)
100% of this page's donation method goes to the Alzheimer's Association. They do so much in terms of funding research and helping caregivers, that they are a great place to invest in those suffering. The donation page for SeniorAge is on my website found at Digitalcornbread.com on the Runnin' Til I'm Purple tab. :) Please consider donations to SeniorAge as well ( www.senioragemo.org ) ! They are each worth every penny as we fight this disease and care for those who have it!
Thank you very much! Off we go! :)"
