I speak of this from first hand experience. We lost my nanny (grandmother) Muriel to this disease and it was heartbreaking. Our family cared for her at home not knowing that we could have received help. The process was so frustrating from the hospital trips listening to the drs talking behind our backs saying we were trying to fast track her in to a nursing home, which was never an option we even considered to not knowing where to turn for help. The whole experience took its toll on our whole family.
No one told us about the Alzheimer's Association. We had no idea about the association until after she was gone. I want to make sure no other family has to go through this. Families should know there is help out there for them.
