My dad lost his battle with Alzheimer's August 2, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. I held his hand and sang to him until he took his last breath. My dad was a warrior up until the end. I miss him everyday and am heartbroken that I will never hear his laugh or his stories again. I walk for my dad, my mom, my siblings, my kids, my grandkids and my friends. I walk so one day there will be a cure and no one will need to endure the pain of this horrible disease. My dad was the smartest man I have ever known. He was a high school teacher (chemistry and physics) and was a football, wrestling and baseball coach. He instilled in me a love of football. As a five year old, I remember wearing my tiger mascot uniform for the cheerleaders and while they wanted me to cheer with them, I preferred to stand next to my dad on the sidelines, assisting him with coaching his team (well as much as a 5 year old could assist). I remember those glorious days spent with my dad and I find comfort in knowing with his passing he has regained his memories back. I hope he smiles once again with those memories. Most importantly I hope I make him proud.
