Alzheimer’s Disease is unforgiving, impartial, and devastating. The disease affects the individual, family and friends in so many ways. Char and I have experience with Alzheimer’s Disease with our immediate family, extended family and numerous friends who have been challenged with the reality of the disease. Recently, Char’s father Chet was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s.
Last year, Char and I and started a new tradition. We and a few close friends donated and walked in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®, which is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This year we have decided to expand our new tradition. We started a team, the Thai tiNy Walkers, to participate in this Walk to End Alzheimer's® (Saturday, October 8th). We plan to raise awareness and money for research every year so that one day a cure may be found, and we need your help.
Alzheimer’s disease is one of the fastest growing epidemics in the United States, yet it rarely gets the attention that cancer or heart disease receives. Currently, 5+ million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to 16 million by 2050. Every 67 seconds someone in the United States develops Alzheimer's disease! Can you imagine what kind of numbers this would be if the rest of the world is included?
Our team can’t promise to get everything right, but we can promise that our hearts are in the right place. This year and all years forward we will walk for our family, for other families and for future generations. We look forward to representing all those who support us and all those suffering with this horrible disease with respect and dignity. We look forward to the day when we can hold up the White flower representing the first Alzheimer’s survivor.
Please join our team and walk with us, send positive thoughts, and if you are able, please consider donating to the cause as we work towards finding a cure for Alzheimer’s. All donations matter. My page: http://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=15538&pg=personal&px=15540623
