The baby of ten, my Grandmother was always the one who could walk into a room full of strangers and within a few minutes find a connection to at least one person in the room.  The connection was more often than not a distant relation thanks to the fact that she seemed to have EVERYONE'S family tree memorized.  With a big smile on her face, she would then proceed to explain how we were related.  

Over the years, many of her siblings lived long lives, but those who did ended up having something dreaded in common: Alzheimer's and related dementia.  Unfortunately, today Grandmother no longer has the memory she once did.  She's never sure who we are when we visit, but she's always glad to see us and she grins the whole time we are there.  I've learned to be grateful that she's happy and content because if she can't have her memories any longer, at least for now she has happiness.
