I have been working yearly with the Alzheimer's Association as many of you know. My Mom, her sisters and brothers fought this terrible disease. I believe we CAN make a difference. This disease touches nearly every family I know in some way or another. Huge improvements have been made thanks to the research. Please help me with this Charity so we can find a cure.
My brother, sister and myself spent a lot of time with Mom in her last years. This poem by Owen Darnell makes me think of Mom during her last years with us.
Do not ask me to remember. Don't try to make me understand. Let me rest and know you're with me. Kiss my cheek and hold my hand. I'm confused beyond your concept. I am sad and sick and lost. All I know is that I need you To be with me at all cost. Do not lose your patience with me. Do not scold or curse or cry. I can't help the way I'm acting. Can't be different though I try. Just remember that I need you, That the best of me is gone, Please don't fail to stand beside me, Love me 'til my life is done.
There is an Alzheimer's site you can go directly to from this post to make a tax-deductible donation. I am participating to honor my Mom, her sisters, brothers and all of those touched by this awful disease.
