I’m walking towards a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and all diseases of the memory.
My story began in 2017 when it became very obvious that my grandmother needed help, a lot more help than I allowed myself to believe through the years. I brought my grandparents into our home and started to prepare.... but just 42 days later my grandmother passed in her sleep due to cardiac arrest. Fast forward to 2018, my grandfather showed signs, and moved back in with us, needing 24/7 care. Oh how the days and nights were hard, but unlike , my grandmother, my grandfather was with us 20 months. As his caregiver, I “walked” with him down each and every confusing and scary road. This past May my grandfather passed and as many of us know, the disease is often harder on the caregiver as time goes on. I cherish each and every lesson and obstacle that I tripped over along the way. And would do it all over again, just to be by their side, comforting them, and making what world they could remember the best world possible.
I walk for my beloved grandparents, William and Brigitte Latchaw. Forever in my heart!
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
