A little over a year ago, I said goodbye to my Dad for the last time. His voice had been silenced years ago, but not his eyes, not his touch, and not his love for music. I felt empty and so many memories came flooding to my mind...so many memories that I am thankful to be able to remember, enjoy, and cherish. My Dad had lost that simple privilege long ago - that privilege that we all take for granted. He loved learning, laughing, working hard, practical jokes, and he was proud of each and every one of his children and their accomplishments. Without him, I would not be who I am; he encouraged me to be the best. To learn, grow, fail, and pick myself back up and try again; after all that is the only way to learn to succeed. He always showed up when I needed him most, but I never figured out how he knew. And now, I will never know. Now, I show up for him. I continue to fight for him and everyone touched by Alzheimer’s or Dementia. I will fight until the cure is found.
