I'm dedicating the first mile to my Uncle Tom who passed three years ago from dementia,. He was one of the greatest men I've known and the father to four of my cousins, including Maria Yanda. Maria is the captain of our team (Optum Memory Marchers) and is on a frontline of fighting the disease daily as a Physician Assistant at a memory care facility -- she's a real hero. The Last mile will be for my former father in-law, Ted Thomas, who's a great father and grandfather to my kids. He's in his final stages with dementia and I'm grateful for the time we spent together.
Shout out to my family for all your support and love. It's your love that fuels me. It's you that I think of when I want to give up. Love you with everything.
Shout out to my cousin, Maria Yanda, and the Florida Gulf Coast Alzheimer's Association for all their support. Optum Memory Marchers has allowed me to leverage this venue to raise awareness. Maria is one of those special people that cares for Alzheimer's and Dementia patients (and their families) everyday, in a clinical setting. Amazing!
Shout out to my coach, Frank Sole who taught me how to swim distance and is the voice in my head that pushes me to the next level.
Shout out to my best friend, Scott Wall and his wife, Lisa Wall, who has always supported me and was there two years ago for my first swim around Key West. Scott's father in-law passed from Dementia and I know that he will be with us spirit! I love you both.
Shout out to my employer and the greatest software company in the world, Databricks! Special thanks to my team and boss, Ron, for all your support! #teamworkmakesthedreamwork!
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
