Lloyd was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and uncle. His passing will be difficult for us all, but in a lot of ways we lost him more than a year before he passed.
About a year ago, during a clear headed moment he described to me his Alzheimer's related delusions. He explained that he would see a poster of an image that transfixed his attention, and that it might morph into a sort of movie with a notion that only he saw. In one instance he imagined he was late to pick up children at the mall. In another that my mother was an impostor.
He was a sentimental man. He expressed his love to his family regularly. So, it was a big shock for the family when the disease brought on bouts of rage and paranoia. Until near the very end, he still recognized us all, and may have recalled his spells of delusion, which would have been upsetting to him.
We're sad to say goodbye to him forever now, but we take some comfort in knowing that he's no longer suffering.
