Most will know that my journey with Alzheimer's began in my early childhood as the disease stole my mom's Dad away from our family and at death, the UW Alzheimer's Disease Research Center confirmed through autopsy that he passed away due to complications from early onset Alzheimer's. I am fortunate to remember the time I had with him but the journey was not over then and continues today. I have recently completed 10years on the Alzheimer's Association Board of Directors, being an advocate and fundraising (with your support!) to continue the amazing research and programs that the Alzheimer's Association provides. While there has been exponential growth in the funding at the NIH and continued breakthrough progress on treatments, we are continuing to see the number of people affected by Alzheimer's grow and we still have work to do.
Because of your continued support, the Alzheimer's Association IS making headway on this horrible disease through activities such as this Walk that raises funds for continued research as well as helping those in need of care and support. Want proof, check out the latest updates coming from the AAIC here: AAIC.
Alzheimer's and Dementia have impacted both sides of my family and also my wife's family. Today, we are watching the early stages of Alzheimer's begin to take hold on my mom's brain, a sad legacy continuing on her lineage.
Jenn, Alex, Sam and I would love your support, whether walking with us, donating to the cause or both!
This year as with last, GLY Construction, continues to be a huge supporter of the Association and has donated to the Alzheimer's Association. Our once small WALK team is bigger and better with "Team GLY - Haakenson". We'd love to have you come walk with us in your "PURPLE" or simply consider supporting our goal to raise at least $5000 for the Association.
I know many of you receiving this have given generously over the course of the year for other events to benefit the Association or other causes near and dear to you. For that I thank you sincerely, we can't do enough in our community to help those in need. If you can find a way to dig deeper and give again, excellent! If you have a loved one affected by the disease that we can "honor" with our walk, please pass that info along too. This walk is for everyone.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease is coming!
