I remember the first time a family member was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It was a shock, a scare, and held many unknowns. I was relatively young, but have vivid memories of the time. I remember the sadness it brought to our family. The changes it had on our family member's personality. How it affected her day to day living. How I was never really sure if she would remember or recognize me - even though she always recognized my dad.
Sadly, this would not be the only time I watched it affect someone we know well. The fear doesn't change, the sadness doesn't change, the unknowns remain just as scary as the first time.
The pain and suffering Alzheimer's brings to a family, their friends, and loved ones can barely be put into words. I pray for those who suffer or have to watch other's suffer from this disease. We MUST find a cure.
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for your support!
