Alzheimer’s first hit our family after my grandmother had a stroke. From there she went from nursing home to nursing homes. She fell between the drinking fountain and the wall and broke her hip and when that happened it accelerated the Alzheimer's. She fought the disease for many years but in the end she did not know any of us. Then eventually she passed away from this terrible disease.
Many years later this awful disease hit my family again but this time it was my husband of 19 years. He was a brittle diabetic with many highs and lows and if you are a diabetic you know what I'm talking about. When he was in the hospital in 2018 for DKA he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. After that diagnoses we tried everything under the sun to slow down the Alzheimer's, but he lost his battle January 14, 2021 at the age of 73. I miss him more and more everyday.
It is my mission that one day there will be a cure for this awful disease.
