This is a story of the three young Rosenbach boys growing up in a loving family in Schulenburg, TX never knowing what lay ahead that would change their world and the world of their families.
In high school, Bernie was fortunate to be awarded a NROTC scholarship to Tulane University. After graduation he served in the Navy where he obtained entry into flight school which led to his 30 year career with Delta Air Lines. August 29th marks the 4th year since Bernie's death from Alzheimer's.
Bernie's older brother, Bill, graduated from Texas A&M and served in the military for 25 years and then taught leadership at Gettysburg College. He led a very active life enjoying the successes of his children and grandchildren until he started showing signs of dementia. When I started this story Bill was in a nursing home and did not recognize his family most of the time. Bill died from Alzheimer's Sunday, August 31, 2025.
Bernie's younger brother, Larry, had a successful career following graduation from Texas A&M. Today he also suffers from Alzheimer's.
Three out of three siblings is no coincidence!! It is a devastating thought for the children of the millions of Alzheimer's patients to recognize that through no fault of their own, they have been born into a family plagued with the possibility of the "Alzheimer's Risk Gene." There is a test to determine your chance of having the marker. Would YOU want to know?
This is why I continue to Walk for Bernie in the annual Southern Crescent Peachtree City Alzheimer's Walk. The only way to change the future for generations to come is to find a cure/prevention. The only way to make this happen is through research and that takes money. We need your help in the fight to make a difference for future generations.
Alzheimer's does not discriminate. Seven million Americans are living with Alzheimer's or related dementias. One in three seniors will die from a form of dementia.
