The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
Family and friends, I am once again skiing the Camel's Hump Challenge! One of New England's premier backcountry skiing events, The Camel's Hump Challenge is a 25km highcountry traverse around the perimeter of Camel's Hump, the third-highest peak in Vermont's Green Mountains. This annual fundraiser supports the Vermont Alzheimer's Association. This will be my sixth year participating in the event, and once again I will be skiing alongside my team, The Hot Toddies, with my friends Flora, Marisa, and Steve! I am, as always, honored to participate and am committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer's research, care and support. Personally, I am skiing in memory of my dear grandmother, Marion (Tutu) Clendaniel, who suffered with Alzheimer's disease at the end of her life. As an avid sailor, bobsledder, horseback rider, and Vermont resident, Tutu would have loved just such an adventure as the Camel's Hump Challenge!
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Here in Vermont there are more than 12,000 living with the disease, and over 30,000 caregivers. Alzheimer's disease is the 5th leading cause of death in Vermont. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide. You can read more about the reality of Alzheimer's in the US today and the work that the Alzheimer's Association is doing here: http://www.alz.org/facts/overview.asp
You can make your donation through my page and it will go in support of our whole team. The snowpack has been building slowly but surely here in Vermont and I cannot wait to join the rest of The Hot Toddies in undertaking this exciting adventure. We will take care of each other along the way and as always will snap a few photos of the day so that we can share the adventure with our donors!
Thank you for joining our movement and for your generous support! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
