"You will learn to love him not as a daughter, but as a friend who cares about him." Good advice from a great friend who has walked in the shoes I'm now wearing.

I fought the urge to believe that one day my own father wouldn't always remember who I am, who was saddened when I told him that his mother had passed 40 years ago, who still can tell me with his look and his tender eyes that he loves me (when he has those moments of memory).

A father, a son, a brother, a husband. An Army veteran of the Korean war, a 20-year veteran of the police department. A loving man who taught me the rules of football while eating cheese and crackers while watching the game.

Treasured memories for me . . . forgotten memories for him.

Dick Crofoot. My dad. A man of courage.

Dad is dancing in heaven

Dad no longer struggles with Alzheimers. He went home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2010. He will be missed by so many. We'll write more soon.

Cheryl and Chuck,
What a beautiful thing to do for your dad. Someday, the next generation of your family will be able to look back at this and what his life stood for. What a great thing for those who will never know him.
I remember that he was a cop. He was the only one in the neighborhood and whenever we had any trouble with the law from anyone outside of the neighborhood, we would tell them that down the block lived a policemen. It put them on alert!
God bless you both and may there be peace in your hearts and your lives for taking care of your father.
