In 2012 when my sister, Linda, was only 64 years old, the same age as I am now, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My sister eventually had to be placed in a nursing home. I watched my sister slowly succumb to this dreadful disease. At the end she could not speak, eat or walk. She passed away at the young age of 69.
My sister always called me her "bratty little brother," a title I definitely earned. In her honor I am going to walk across the State of Iowa, starting April 23 in Akron, IA and ending at the Mississippi River. During the walk I will be staying in campgrounds or any place someone will let me throw my tent.
You can follow my training for my journey and the actual hike on my You Tube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7UdkglHTyU9E-0IpezkrZw or on Facebook
My walk will be along Hwy 3 corridor in north Iowa. If anyone is interested in walking a few miles with me, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am asking you to donate to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of my sister. The Alzheimer's Association provides care to all those facing Alzheimer's, drives research toward treatment, prevention and, ultimately a cure and speaks up for the needs and rights of people affected by Alzheimer's.
I will match the total donations up to $1,000, so help me put my money to good use.
Thank you for helping advance Alzheimer's support, care and research.
