For the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer's, we are proud to partner with United States Cold Storage to raise funds, support, and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association.
In honor of this collaboration, we are renaming our team to Pop Pop's Cold Crew. "Pop Pop" symbolizes our commitment to honoring the Alzheimer's community, and our Cold Crew at USCold is joining the team to represent the care, love, and support for this vital mission.
Join us as we make a difference together!
Pop Pop's Story
Ed was a man of many talents – a husband, dad, pop-pop, friend, plumber, carpenter, mechanic, builder, inventor, and much more. Known for his "hands of gold," Ed was the go-to person for all fix-it needs, always ready to help those who came to his door or called him for assistance.
A South Philly native and a simple man, Ed met the love of his life, his childhood sweetheart Agatha, just down the block, and they have been together ever since. Now, Agatha is Ed's main caregiver, supported by their daughter Karen, son-in-law Todd, and their children Bianca, Dominica, and Todd Jr.
Alzheimer’s disease has stolen much from Ed, as it has from so many others. This cruel illness has taken his dignity, his vast knowledge, and his passion for fixing and building creations. Ed was a visionary – the kind of man who could see a bike tire and a scrap of metal and imagine a windmill. He once found copper tubing and immediately thought to build a solar panel, which he installed on his rowhome roof. Ed Suez was the first person in South Philadelphia to power his home with wind energy and to use solar-heated water, long before such innovations were common.
Alzheimer’s has taken away Ed’s ability to think independently, to use his creative hands, and to communicate his thoughts verbally. Yet, each day, we move forward, grateful for the wonderful support circle that surrounds us, offering their ears, laughter, and tears.
We walk and fundraise in honor of Edward Suez because he has honored us, taught us, and inspired us to be creative thinkers. We pray for all the families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and for the caregivers who provide unwavering support.
You may no longer remember, Ed, but we will never forget.
