My Story

The World Marathon Challenge will take place from Jan. 31 – Feb. 6, 2023, and involves running 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. The schedule:

  1. Nova, Antarctica (Antarctica)
  2. Cape Town, South Africa (Africa)
  3. Perth, Australia (Australia)
  4. Dubai, UAE (Asia)
  5. Madrid, Spain (Europe)
  6. Fortaleza, Brazil (South America)
  7. South Beach Miami, Florida (North America)

Fueled mostly by airplane food and aspirin, I will be running the World Marathon Challenge to beat Alzheimer’s and dementia. I'm not an elite athlete, just an average, somewhat weathered, human doing the best she can, so I may or may not be able to reach the finish line of this epic challenge; but I promise to give it everything I have. Please join me in making a difference by donating to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Memory Joggers is a social running/adventure group that started back in 2004 as a therapeutic outlet to help me deal with emotions around my father’s diagnosis and (ultimately) death due to Alzheimer’s. Now, recognizing my family’s strong predisposition to Alzheimer’s, I embrace epic challenges like the World Marathon Challenge with the purpose of promoting health and wellness, as well as to create memories so indelible that they might withstand the ravages of Alzheimer’s, should I ever get it. In some ways, through endurance sports and extreme adventures, I am trying to Alzheimer's-proof my brain; in others, I am just living my very best life. Regardless, at Memory Joggers, we take the threat of Alzheimer’s as a call to action and hope to inspire others to do the same, while creating epic memories in the process. Please feel free to join me on this incredible and challenging journey by following me on social media on Instagram or Facebook for up-to-date info and real time updates.

One final note: should I survive the World Marathon Challenge, shortly thereafter (in April), I will be heading to an iceberg to run the North Pole Marathon. Completing the North Pole Marathon will not only earn me the coveted Marathon Grand Slam (marathons on all 7 continents plus the North Pole), but will include me in a miniscule subset of humans who have completed the Marathon Grand Slam in a single calendar year.

Thank you in advance for joining me as I race to the ends of the world to beat Alzheimer's! Together we will!
