Currently, more than 6 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to as many as 13 million by 2050. My wonderful, brilliant, beloved husband Dan lived with "dementia consistent with Alzheimer's" since at least 2012 and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) for unknown years prior. We participated in our first "Walk to End Alzheimer's" in September of 2013. Dan's mobility for the Walk over these last 10 years progressed from cane to walker to wheelchair. Dan was unable to take a step since 2020 and required use of a lift and total care. He barely verbalized but his ability to smile and laugh and enjoy music, babies and animals (and our Walks) was a blessing and small consolation on our excruciating journey. Dan's beautiful mind was overtaken and no one could retrieve it. The toll Alzheimer's took on Dan and our families was heartbreaking to say the least. On January 1, 2025 my beloved Dan died from this simply terrible disease. We NEED to find a way to prevent this disease and a cure for those who have it. Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please consider making a donation in any amount to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's with either a donation or your voice!
