This October, our family will make the trek to Cleveland to participate in the Alzheimer’s Walk at the Cleveland Zoo in honor of my grandmother, Mary Jane Greenland and in support of families caring for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
Over the past several months our family has watched as dementia has slowly taken pieces of the spunky, vibrant woman we’ve always known and loved. My grandmother has always been strong, witty, and full of love for her family. She’s the one who taught us life’s little lessons (such as how to play poker with pennies), who filled our holidays with warmth, and who never missed a chance to share a laugh.
Now, as dementia continues to change her world, we walk to remember all the parts of her that remain—her love, her strength, and the memories that will always live in our hearts.
I walk to honor her story. I walk to support families like ours. And I walk with hope that one day, no family will have to face the heartbreak of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
This walk is more than a fundraiser—it’s a way to carry my grandmother’s legacy forward. Every step I take is for her.
