My grandma, Darleen, was quite the sunshine-y lady. Her smile was *almost* as bright as the lemon-yellow Volkswagen Beetle she drove, the same car that granted her the nickname Grandma Beetle. Grandma Beetle adored gardening (both flowers and vegetables) and tending to hummingbirds. She really had us grandkids convinced she would continue on her outdoor adventures until she was 100 years old, at minimum! I looked forward to Grandma Beetle experiencing the excitement of great grandchildren one day. I always thought she'd get a kick out of recreating my favorite picture of my early childhood trips to her vegetable stand. But thirty years sooner than expected, Grandma Beetle stopped gardening... stopped tending to her hummingbirds... forgot how much she loved gardens and hummingbirds... forgot me. She deserved to be sunshine-y for so much longer.
