"Let's Go Girls!" ...and guys, you're included too.
If you're a girl of my generation, when you hear these words, you probably picture Shania Twain in a white button-up. I picture my mom, singing WAY too loud in our kitchen with the music blasting. That's who she was, joyful, bold, and full of life.
When I was 20, my mom was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. Ten years ago, we lost her to this disease. My family could choose to focus on the sadness, but instead, we are choosing to honor her the way she lived. We are coming together, getting moving, and celebrating the joy she brought into our lives.
On October 18, we will walk in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's. We walk to celebrate my mom. We walk to raise money for research, care, and support.
But my story does not stop with her. In my family, Alzheimer's is genetic. That means this disease is not just part of my past. It is part of my future too. I know what is at stake for me, my siblings, and our children, and that is why I walk. I walk because I believe we can change the ending - for me, for our family, and for so many others.
Please consider donating. Every dollar brings us closer to a world without Alzheimer's. Thank you for standing with me.
Want to put in some miles along with your money? Please join me and my family, and let's walk on October 18.
I appreciate your support!
