My grandmother, Dana Brinkley, affectionately known as "Mimi" to me, received the heartbreaking diagnosis of Alzheimer's when I was just in third grade. Witnessing the gradual dimming of her vibrant spirit over the years has been an incredibly painful journey. Mimi was not just a grandmother; she was a beacon of warmth and kindness, a confidant to many, and the epitome of sweetness. Alzheimer's has cruelly robbed her of so much, leaving an indelible mark on our family.
I earnestly hope for ongoing strides in the fight against this disease, striving for treatments and ultimately a cure that can spare others from enduring its devastating effects.
