My mother was diagnosed in 2021, after we lost my grandmother to Alzheimer's the previous year. Having to watch your loved one fade away, seeing a vibrant, good-hearted person become someone you don't recognize, who doesn't always recognize you, it's terrifying and painful. I went through this ordeal alongside my mom while my grandmother deteriorated, and now my brother and I are facing the same battle.
The Alzheimer's Association has been an incredible resource in navigating this new reality. The annual walk is their largest fundraiser, and all the money raised goes towards care, support, and research. Every year hits a little different for me as we watch the disease progress in my mom, but it does consistently help to remind me that I'm not alone in this struggle.
October 18th is this year's Walk To End Alzheimer's in Atlanta. Please consider joining us for the walk, donating to the cause, or just commenting some encouragement! I walk so that one day we'll have a cure. I walk in the hopes that future generations won't be affected in the many ways that my family has.
