Over the past 11 years, I have experienced firsthand how devastating a disease Alzheimer’s is for everyone it touches. It is painful to watch someone you love so much, my mom, change so dramatically and the person you once knew, and love disappear in front of your eyes. 

She is currently in Memory Care and is declining at a rapid rate. She has zero short term memory. At times she is delusional with some REALLY wild stories. She usually thinks I am her sister not her daughter. Today when I visited I could tell she had no idea who I was. I looked familiar to her I think but she couldn't place me. She read my name tag and asked your name is Debbie Turner?  She doesn't know who my son and husband are anymore. 

Alzheimer's is a heartbreaking disease that kills more people than Breast and Prostate cancer combined. I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's on 9/28/2024 in honor of my mother. Raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease - Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. 79% of $ raised goes to support Alzheimer's care, support, research, awareness and advocacy. 17% goes towards fundraising and only 4% towards administration.
