Friends, Family, Colleagues and Mentors,
I am so very proud to be the Chair for the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer's which will take place November 5th at Libbie Mill. Amy and I whole heartedly support this organization and hope you will as well. Whether you independently fundraise, volunteer or donate, we will forever be grateful.
Unfortunately, our family experienced the disease firsthand with my maternal grandmother, Pauline Barr. Nanny, as she was known to my sister and I, was an extremely caring and astute lady. She was always up to date on current events and loved a healthy debate. Her and my grandfather sacrificed and invested in both my sister and I by funding our tuition for college. She loved Amy and our children deeply.
Given this background, you can imagine how difficult it was for us to watch what this disease can do to someone. Nanny eventually lost daily freedoms as her cognition declined which was difficult for all of us to accept as she was such an independent and spirited soul. My mother was forever present and by her side which was an immense effort and sacrifice of her own. We ultimately lost Nanny the Summer of 2018.
Amy and I are reaching out to ask for your support for our upcoming walk. Your time and / or funds will help advance education, research & development and resources to help those inflicted with receiving quality care. Many of you may not be aware, but the pipeline for drugs to treat Alzheimer's is growing and quite promising. While not a cure (yet), we are close and there is momentum. Anything you can do to help will be sincerely appreciated.
Be well,
Amy & Matt McDavid
