Dad lost his battle with Altzhelimer's on July 30, 2020. Mom did an AMAZING job of caring for him through the many years of this devastating disease. There is no way we could have done it all on our own. So, while his fight is over, mine continues. It takes all of us working together to both care for those who have the illness, and care for their caregivers. Please check in regularly with those families who you know are struggling with Alzheimers. Listen to the same stories as if it is the first time you ever heard them! (Make sure you laugh every time! Dad took great delight in making people laugh!) Offer an ear or shoulder to the caregiver - this is tough stuff they are dealing with! Even if their loved one is residing someplace other than with them, the burden of care is still very real and weighty. If you can, PLEASE DONATE TO THE WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S! While every little bit helps, I ask you to be as generous as you can. These funds go toward research for a cure (there are a few promising studies out there!), a free 24 hour help line, and advocacy/raising awareness.
