Watching first my Dad, Bob Smith, an accomplished writer and martial arts expert, and then my Mom, Alice Smith, a devoted wife and mother, go through dementia was a very challenging, and at times, exhausting journey. Witnessing these two energetic, vibrant, independent people struggle with this disease was heartbreaking. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
