My family has been living with this for 29, yes TWENTY-NINE year's. From my Gramma Nan, Great Uncle Stanley, Aunt Irene, my Mommy & my oldest Sister Pat was diagnosed in 2020 & we lost her on December 26th, 2023. This has been been very difficult for our family!
While a January 2010 diagnosis confirmed my Mom's biggest fears, we already knew that it was Alzheimer's.
The hardest part for me was in August of 2013, after staying with my parents for a week after my Dad had surgery, my Mom asked me how I knew all of the people she was talking about? I told her I was "Annie, her baby". It was so hard not to break down in tears. She said "all of this time you were here & I didn't know it was you?" she was so surprised, I was so hurt. I asked her who she thought I was & she said "I don't know, but I knew you were someone special" I did my best to reassure her that it was ok & that she had a lot on her mind, being worried about my Dad.
I cried myself to sleep that night & started mourning the loss of the person she was.
Please join me in the fight against Alzheimer's & work towards our goal of our first white flower & a world without Alzheimer's. I do this for my Mom, Sister, children & grandchildren!
